Item Description
Castleton Plums
Half Bushel (approximately 30 pounds)
Castleton plums are a European variety, which is pretty different from the Japanese plums we're used to buying in supermarkets. Castleton plums are more oblong, deep purple to blue-black on the outside, with yellow-green flesh. They're a great plum for making dehydrated prunes, but they're also wonderful for eating fresh, canning, freezing, baking pies, cakes and even making jam.
Castleton plums are a freestone fruit, meaning that the pit pops out easily, but they do need to be ripe or else the pit will stick.
**Be sure to take the pit out before giving plums to young children.**

- Dehydrate them: we did this last year, and they were great but not like store bought prunes.
